Stock coils are one of the biggest headaches for Dnepr owners. Many owners use an older (point and condenser type) 5 ohm, dual fire, Harley coil. Here is a photo of the best mounting location I have yet come up with. Keeping the coil away from the heat and vibration of the engine should add to its' lifespan. I do not know if this location is good for wet weather, as I do not ride in the rain. Using a drill bit extension, available at Home Depot or Walmart, I drilled and tapped the holes all the way thru the frame crossmember. I took some auto heater hose, cut it length-ways, and used it to mount the coil on. Then I used nuts on the other end of the mounting bolts, to lock the bolts in place.
End terminals for connecting the solid core wire to the harley coil were found at the local auto performance store, as well as the crimping tool. I found the terminals needed a little help from some needle nose pliers to be shaped round enough to fit into the harley coil properly.
Stock plug caps and wires are also a source of heartache. I recommend 5k ohm NGK 90 degree plug caps. You want to use solid wire. I procure mine from www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/plug_caps.htm . Good price on both the wire and caps.
If you are converting from the nightmare of Russian electronic ignition to Dr. Harms GM points plate, make sure you also purchase the flyweight advance mechanism. You may want to purchchase a spare to carry, as they tend to implode on occasion. I usually have them in stock. The 2 piece unit is generally better quality.
Make sure your engine is grounded properly. Paint is usually a very poor conductor.
